The
Department of Jewish Education & Continuity promotes and encourages
Jewish enlightenment, identity and commitment. An educational partner
to schools, congregations, organizations and the community-at-large,
the Department offers curriculum and program assistance and provides
resources to teachers throughout the community. It endeavors to
improve the quality and level of Jewish education through cultural
events for the entire community, adult and parent educational courses
and activities. The Department is funded in large measure by the
Jewish Federation Annual Campaign.

Post-Confirmation
education for 11th and 12th graders, and 9th and10th grade dayschool
graduates, taught by rabbis and scholars who enjoy working with
teenagers. An optional teaching certification program prepares students
to teach religious school while they attend college, thereby preparing
the next generation of Jewish educators.

of Israel |
|
A cooperative savings program, co-funded
by families, synagogues and the Jewish Federation (through AJA contributions)
that helps strengthen Jewish identity by enabling post-Confirmation
Hebrew School students to visit Israel.

An
"educational wonderland" for teachers, the TRC features
a comprehensive reference library and a plethora of curriculum enhancers,
including craft ideas, charts, models, posters, and games. The TRC
also publishes a newsletter and conducts workshops, all in order
to help teachers "jump start" their lessons with creativity.

Programs
that empower families to add Jewish values, practices, and knowledge
to their home life. Family education's creative intergenerational
approach fosters family interaction and participation in synagogue
and community activities.

Scholarships
presented to Midrashah students enable them to travel to Washington,
D.C. for a national, three-day program of youth leadership, social
action and Jewish civic and political awareness.

Programs |
|
These
extravaganzas bring all our Hebrew school students together to mark
a special occasion, celebrate a holiday, or enjoy a presentation
by an Israeli entertainment troupe.

| Financial
Assistance |
|
The
Department offers scholarships for Beit Ya'akov, Midrashah, Jewish
overnight summer camp, and trips to Israel. Two Merit Scholarships
are awarded each year in conjunction with a departmental essay contest.
Teachers also receive scholarships to attend the CAJE Educators
Conference and to further their Jewish education through the Excellence
in Teaching Award.

for Teachers |

An
arrangement between the DJE and ACAJE enables teachers in our community
to use all the Agency's facilities, including the library and media
center, and to participate in workshops.

| Staff
Study Programs |
|
To
further Jewish literacy among Jewish communal professionals, DJE
staff organize study sessions for Federation staff meetings and
for those who wish to study during lunch hours.
